Regulation of CCTV is 'up for grabs'

Regulation of CCTV as wanted by the coalition government will cover all CCTV. it will start with public space CCTV - but spread to take in the private sector , and installation. So the interim CCTV regulator Andrew Rennison suggested at a seminar last month
Timetable
As for the timetable of any regulation, Rennison promised consultation. Given that the ICO has already published a code of practice for CCTV; might there be confusion. “There won't be, I promise you; what we don't know is whether there will be two codes of practice.” Coalition ministers want regulation to be simple as possible. Rennison's progress must wait on the parliamentary progress of the Protection of Freedom Bill, which should receive Royal Assent in spring 20102. Cable thefts in Nottinghamshire led Western Power Distribution to begin marking its cables and other property with an incredible forensic liquid. The marking product is also deployed in the telecoms, rail and utilities sectors. (Professional Security Magazine, Dec 2011, VOL 21/12: pg19)

Armed guard is allowed

Prime Ministers David Cameron has announced that merchant vessels flying the red ensign will be allowed to carry armed guards for protection against pirates, organisers of Transport Security Expo write.
